I’ve always liked Briscoe going back to his college days as a member of the Kansas Jayhawks. He’s got good size and will go up and get the football.
When I first heard the Redskins had claimed him I was a little surprised because you don’t find a 22-year-old receiver coming off a season like he had last year on waivers everyday.
I know the guy didn’t post monster numbers, but he proved he could play at the NFL level and be productive. His six touchdowns would’ve led the Redskins last season.
It’s definitely worth bringing him into training camp and seeing if he’d be a good fit. I’m sure Shanny and Son sought out Raheem Morris and asked his opinion since he coached Briscoe last season with the Bucs.
I like the Wildcats to win this game and deliver head coach John Calipari his first NCAA Championship. The Wildcats have too much firepower on offense and human fly swatter Anthony Davis lurking on the defensive end.
The Jayhawks are a very scrappy team and will hang around in this game. They will not panic if they are trailing into the second half like some teams might do with a championship at stake. They have allowed their four tournament opponents to score a total of 96 points in the second half combined.
March Madness is down to the Final Four teams and roughly 10 hours from now it will be down to the final two. I think both games are good matchups and will be tough, hard-fought games that will come down to the final minutes before being decided.
The Jayhawks won earlier this season 78-67 over the Buckeyes, but don’t buy into that game. The game was in Kansas and the Buckeyes were playing without Jared Sullinger that day. So that game isn’t worth wasting your time trying analyze it if you’re looking for an edge because you won’t find one.
Both teams are solid on the defensive end and play with an edge. The matchup people are talking about is Sullinger and Thomas Robinson of the Jayhawks, but they are not alone.
Deshaun Thomas has been a man on a mission during the tournament for the Buckeyes and leads the team with 21.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. If he continues playing at this level it’s going to be awfully hard to beat the Buckeyes, but the Jayhawks are one of the teams that can.
The Jayhawks need senior guard Tyshawn Taylor to continue the roll he was on in the win over North Carolina. Taylor’s had a rough tournament, but snapped out of his recent slump with 22 points against the Tar Heels to propel his team into the Final Four.
Another key player for the Jayhawks is 7-foot shot blocking freak Jeff Withey who is averaging 8.5 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks per game in the tournament. Withey was huge in the 60-57 win over N.C. State with 10 blocked shots.
The two teams are really evenly matched if you look at all the numbers and this will be a tight game. The one thing that could come back and bite the Jayhawks is their free throw shooting. They shoot 64% as a team while the Buckeyes shoot 75% from the line.
In a close game missed free throws are a killer. I’ve watched many talented teams at all levels fall short of achieving their goal of winning a championship because they couldn’t make free throws. Will the Jayhawks be the next team?
The VCU Rams have left no doubt about whether they belong in the NCAA Tournament or not and will head to Houston and the Final Four. I picked Kansas to win and rooted for VCU because I didn’t think they would get the job done, but they did. This is more impressive than what George Mason did back in 2006 because this team has had to win 5 games to get to this point.
Now the VCU Rams are two wins from a national championship and will play the Butler Bulldogs in the Final Four next weekend. This is really an incredible story when you think about it, the team didn’t bother to watch the NCAA Selection Show because they didn’t think they would be part of the field. Then people all over the country were questioning the selection committee about VCU being selected over other more deserving teams.
They have overcome a lot to get here and have made me a believer that they are a legitimate threat to carry a national championship trophy back to their campus in Richmond,Va after next weekends games. I’m picking them to beat Butler and play for a national championship.
The thing that impresses me the most about the VCU Rams is their mental toughness and their refusal to be intimidated no matter the opponent. That is something that starts with their coach Shaka Smart and goes all throughout the team. I loved hearing about PG Joey Rodriguez laughing before the game when Kansas big man Marcus Morris tried to get into their heads by talking trash. It was Kansas who lost their composure and the game in the first half under the VCU pressure and the in your face style of play.
The Final Four will be set after the NCAA Tournament games from today. Who will be joining the Butler Bulldogs and Connecticut Huskies? Read on and I will give you my picks for the games today.
Kansas over VCU – I really want to see the kids from VCU win this game, but I’m picking with my head instead of my heart and Kansas is the better team. I will be rooting for VCU and would love to see coach Smart’s kids pull it off. This is one pick I hope I miss, but I doubt it.
North Carolina over Kentucky – This will be another close game that could go either way, bit I’m going with the Tar Heels to win and advance to the Final Four. These teams met back in December with North Carolina winning 75-73 and I think it will be another nip and tuck battle. I really like the way Kendall Marshall runs the offense for the Tar Heels with his pass first mentality. This will be a fun one to watch because Kentucky has their dynamic PG in Brandon Knight who is a terrific clutch performer .
