I’ve finally calmed down enough from watching the Dallas Cowboys 31-16 win over the sinking and mistake prone Washington Redskins. If I’d have sat down and typed my initial reaction to last night’s fiasco in Dallas I’d probably end up banned from posting anything on the internet ever again.
It’s now painfully obvious the bye week didn’t do a bit of good for this Redskins team after watching last night’s game. Now with the team sitting at 1-4 the question is whether Shanny and Son can somehow get this team on track before it’s too late? This season is quickly spiraling out of control and looks more and more like a return to the twilight zone years. I really can’t believe this is the same team we watched last season!
The defense did a nice job against the Cowboys offense, but still missed plenty of tackles and our special teams play has been ridiculously incompetent all season long. The unit was beyond pathetic against the Cowboys and wound up being the difference between winning and losing.
I’m not really sure if this group can get turned around after what they’ve shown through the first five games. We continue to rack up penalties as well as turning the ball over and that only adds fuel to the fire. One thing that concerns me is the Cowboys lost several key players to injury during this game and we were still unable to take advantage of that opportunity.
The team did get off to a slow start last season (3-6) before reeling off seven straight wins after the bye week. They have somehow managed to get themselves back into similar trap again this season (1-4).
During last season’s early stages the problem was the defense not being able to slow anyone down and kicker Billy Cundiff was struggling. The offensive side of the ball was doing just fine and scoring more than enough points to win ballgames. But an erratic kicker and a bad defense was too much to overcome until changes were made.
But this season we’re struggling in just about all facets and averaging almost two turnovers per game. When you combine all that together it’s no wonder the team is losing games because you can’t win playing like that in the NFL. Can Shanny and Son get this group focused and on the same page before it’s too late?
After taking off my Burgundy & Gold colored glasses and looking at this from a football perspective, the Redskins are a bad team. It kills me to say it, but the proof is in the pudding. I’d love nothing more than to see them win and win big, but I see a lot of things that raise too many red flags in my opinion.
I already hear the calls to fire Shanny and Son, but we’re not at that point yet. I really hope it doesn’t get to that point and wouldn’t think of it until after next season if things are not working. The only way I’d consider it this year is if Shanny and Son lose the locker room and we totally implode, but I don’t see that happening, at least I hope it doesn’t happen.
One thing that strikes me funny is that some of the people calling for heads to roll are the same ones that were starting to panic about Son leaving to take a head coaching job after last season. Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse in the blink of an eye, wow!
