Rookie quarterback Geno Smith will lead the New York Jets into Gillette Stadium later this evening looking to guide his team to a surprising 2-0 start, but beating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots at home is a very tough assignment for any quarterback.
Brady is 17-4 in his career as a starter vs the Jets and has won the last four in Foxborough. On paper this game looks like a mismatch with the Patriots blowing out the Jets, but you must realize that this isn’t just a game between two teams, it’s a heated rivalry.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan is 3-6 against the Patriots while Pats head coach Bill Belichick has a 20-10 mark against Gang Green. Both teams used last second field goals to win last week. The winner will take the early lead in the division and could go into Week 3 with sole possession of first place if the Miami Dolphins lose on Sunday.
Geno Smith had some up and down moments in his NFL debut, but played well enough to show he belonged. He had great chemistry with veteran TE Kellen Winslow Jr. and that will be the plan again this week.
The Patriots new WRs were a little out of sync with Brady, but it will get better as the season progresses.
This is going to be a physical hard-fought game and closer than many people think in my opinion!
Prediction: Patriots 27 Jets 16
