Nationals Trim Roster As Opening Day Gets Closer

Anthony Rendon

The Washington Nationals optioned outfielder Eury Perez to Syracuse of the Triple-A International League and right-handed pitcher Nathan Karns, catcher Sandy Leon and infielder Anthony Rendon to Harrisburg of the Double-A Eastern League. Additionally, the Nationals re-assigned left-handed pitcher Pat McCoy and infielders Will Rhymes and Matt Skole to minor league camp. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

The Nationals currently have 42 players in their big league camp.

I’m impressed with Rendon’s bat and think the kid could play at the big league level now, but the Nats don’t have a roster spot for him at the moment. So sending him back to the minors where he can play everyday is the right thing to do because it’s hard to develop while sitting on the bench.

I knew he could hit, but didn’t realize how much power he has as well.
