Redskins Roll Into NFC East Lead With 38-21 Win Over Browns

There’s a new sheriff in the NFC East and it’s the surging Washington Redskins! The Redskins went on the road and took care of business by beating the Cleveland Browns 38-21 without QB RG3 playing a snap in this must-win game.

Rookie QB Kirk Cousins got off to a shaky start that included an interception that the Browns quickly turned into a 7-0 lead. Midway through the first quarter I started to think we may see QB Rex Grossman if things continued and wondered how long coach Mike Shanahan would wait before turning to the veteran. But almost as soon as that thought crossed my mind things changed in a big way with Cousins connecting with WR Leonard Hankerson on a 54-yard game tying TD.

That was a huge play because the Browns were really building some momentum and starting to feed off of the emotion of their fans. I didn’t want to see them go up 14-0 because then things can unravel in a hurry, but the Redskins showed a lot by fighting through the early adversity and doing it on the road without their starting QB.

This was a total team effort by the Burgundy and Gold. There were contributions made in all three phases of the game today and as a lifelong fan I couldn’t be happier with what this team is doing. People thought I was crazy when the Redskins came out of the bye week at 3-6 and I said they still had a chance at turning their season around, but I guess I’m not really that crazy after all.

The Redskins are now 5-0 since coming off their bye week and stand two wins away from winning the NFC East Division for the first time since 1999. There’s a vibe in the air around the Nation’s Capital about what this team has done and what possibilities may be around the corner, but we must take a chill pill because they still have two games to play and haven’t clinched anything, yet.

Now they will play a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles next week and then host the Dallas Cowboys to end the regular season. That game against the Cowboys could be for the NFC East title. The Cowboys have fought for their season in recent weeks just like the Redskins and if both teams win next week then   they will play a winner take all game in Week 17.
