The Washington Redskins will be starting a huge week with two divisional games that could help to get their season back on track. Things look bleak when you’re on a bye week with a 3-6 record and being written off by everyone, but they still have a fighting chance to save their season.
The Redskins will host the wounded 3-6 Philadelphia Eagles this afternoon in a game that both teams must win. It’s almost an elimination game because falling to 3-7 pretty much knocks you out of contention for a playoff berth. Sitting at 3-6 isn’t much better, but you’ve got a chance to get things turned around if you step up.
The Eagles will be starting rookie QB Nick Foles in place of the injured Michael Vick. Rookie QB’s have had a lot of success against the Redskins over the years and they must find a way to change that trend today or else.
The Redskins better not sit back and let this kid get comfortable in his first NFL start. I’d bring pressure from different angles from the start of this game and put some hits on him. I’d almost be willing to take an early 15 yard roughing the passer penalty to send a message. This is a must win game and you gotta do what you gotta do to win the game, period!
The second game this week will be a Thanksgiving Day road game against the Dallas Cowboys. This is another must win game in my opinion, but I think the ‘Skins can do it.
If the Redskins can come off their bye and take care of business this week they have an opportunity to save this season. This is a huge week for them and getting two NFC East wins would give them a legitimate chance of coming back to win the division. I know that may sound crazy to some of you, but it’s true.
Let’s say the Redskins do get two wins this week, that would make them 5-6 with the New York Giants coming to town for a Monday Night game. That game could be for the NFC East lead and I’ll explain how.
The Giants are 6-4 and on a bye week, but will play the Green Bay Packers next week before coming to the Nation’s Capital. I think they will lose next week’s game and arrive at Fedex Field with a 6-5 record.
If the Redskins were to win these two and the Giants lose to the Packers next weekend that would setup a huge Monday Night Football game with the NFC East lead on the line! The Redskins would take the NFC East lead because of a better divisional record.
But it all starts today against the Eagles!
