The Washington Capitals may have debuted some new faces against the New York Islanders, but the end result stayed the same as the Caps win 2-1 in OT. The win gives the Caps a season sweep of the Islanders and they are now 11-0-3 in their last 14 meetings. I have to admit that I thought the Caps were going to lose as the 3rd period was winding down and the Caps trailing 1-o, but they came through by continuing to fight.
Brooks Laich scored off a pass from Jason Arnott with under a minute to play in regulation to force the OT. That was a huge play and then Alex Ovechkin scored the game winner in OT to seal the deal and send Caps fans home with a smile on their faces. It wasn’t a pretty game, but a win is a win and I will gladly take it.
It was the 9th game winning goal this season for Ovechkin and he also picked up his 300th career assist on the Laich game tying goal. The Caps will host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday at Verizon Center.
