The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver will start in less than 10 days. The NHL will take a 3 week break from hockey while some players will head to Canada to play for their countries and the chance to win a Gold Medal. I wonder how this break will affect the red hot Washington Capitals who are on a franchise best 11 game winning streak and looking like the favorites to win their 1st Stanley Cup. When you are on a roll like that it is better to keep on with the flow of things because there is no guarantee that a streak like that will continue when play resumes. I do understand why it’s important to guys to play in the Olympics and represent their country and think the NHL is doing the right thing by taking a break. It also gives injured players more time to heal and get their bodies refreshed for the stretch run. In a normal season without the Olympic break players don’t have that chance. I just hope it does not hurt the Capitals because I really feel this could be their time to finally get that long awaited Stanley Cup!
