What a difference a year can make! There is a good vibe among the fans of the Washington Nationals as they open spring training. Last year there was the player fraud issues and GM Jim Bowden was on the hot seat and getting ready to be fired. There was real anger among Nationals fans directed at the front office and the teams ownership. People felt the team wasn’t really trying to field a winning team and would not spend money to bring in players. The team wasn’t able to sign the previous summers draft pick Aaron Crow, but things have changed in a big way! New GM Mike Rizzo has done a great job and new manager Jim Riggleman did a great job after taking over for Manny Acta. The team drafted pitcher Stephen Strasburg and got him signed. Ryan Zimmerman had a great season and the Adam Dunn signing really paid off last year and the team is now working on a contract extension for the big lefty. Everyone I talk to is looking forward to the season and is happy with the direction the franchise seems to be going in. Nobody is expecting a World Series Championship this year. It feels like baseball has finally arrived in the Nations Capital!
