I was shocked when I heard the news of George Michael’s passing. I never knew he was that sick. I grew up in the D.C. area watching his sports reports. I remember starting to watch him as a young kid because he covered pro wrestling and nobody else would give it the time of day. His Sunday night Sports Machine was something that every sports fan I knew looked forward to watching because there was no ESPN Sportscenter and there was no cable tv back then. As a Redskins fan I looked forward to his training camp reports each day and his weekly Redskins Report tv show. He didn’t sugarcoat things and said things that needed to be said. When he was on the air you never knew what to expect next because he would come out of left field with something and the chemistry he had with Jim Vance on the air was genuine and will be missed by all of us who loved watching him.
